Straw Cowboy Hats -- Getting Straight On Sizes
How confusing hat sizes are! There seems to be a different system in place in the U.S. than in Europe -- it just seems too complicated! But it isn't -- and the following information will help you make sense of it all:
To Get An Accurate Fit You Must Get An Accurate Measurement
If you want a good fit from straw cowboy hats, you must first get an accurate measurement. How do you do this? Well, grab a tape measure -- and give it to someone else. That's right, you don't want to measure yourself for your straw cowboy hat, have someone else to it. If you try to take the measurement yourself, you will invariably get it wrong - and the straw cowboy hat you buy (based on that measurement) will not fit properly.
To get an accurate measurement of your head, have your partner measure the circumference of your head, underneath your ears, about the middle of your forehead. Have them mark off the measurement, to the nearest 1/8th of an inch. Now comes the tricky part -- converting that raw measurement to a hat size. But we have you covered! Just follow the hat size conversions listed below and you will be sporting that straw cowboy hat in no time at all. If your head size is up to 21 inches: you have a hat size of 6 5/8 -- And you will take an Extra-Small (XS) straw cowboy hat. If your head size is 21 1/2 inches: you have a hat size of 6 3/4. If your head size is 21 3/4 inches: you have a hat size of 6 7/8. If your hat size is either of these two you will be wearing a straw cowboy hat in the Small (S) range. The Medium (M) hat range is for those of you with a hat size of 7 (22 inches) to 7 1/8 (22 1/2 inches). Congratulations! You will be wearing the most popular straw cowboy hat size. If your head size is a little larger -- 22 3/4 inches (size 7 1/4) or 23 inches (size 7 3/8), you will need a straw cowboy hat in the Large (L) range. Need a larger size? No problem. If your head measurement is between 23 1/2 -- 24 inches, you will take an XL-sized straw cowboy hat. Larger still? Well, if your head measures out between 24 3/8 -- 24 7/8 inches, then you will need a straw cowboy hat with an "XXL" on the size label. Finally, if you REALLY need some room, you may need the XXL size. That's for men with a head measurement between 25 1/8 -- 25 1/2 inches. If you take THIS size in a straw cowboy hat, you're in good company, because that's the size that I take! Please note: if you are measuring a young boy or girl, or teenager for a straw cowboy hat, you should measure their head often, at least once a year, as children's heads (like the rest of them) are constantly growing, especially when entering puberty.
